What is meant by "vintage"?
At Fleurs Rouges vinatge is defined as beads, cabochons, chain, etc., which were manufactured between 1930-1980. The vintage components used in our creations are "New old stock" which means they are vintage but have never been used before. It is important to remember aging has occurred with these items and the manufacturing processes were different a number of years ago. A vintage item will not look like the items manufactured today. That is the appeal of "vintage".
Vintage brass will definitely look different from brass items manufactured today. The patina is not uniform most of the time, but that again, that is a big part of the charm and appeal of vintage brass.
What is "patinated" brass?
It is raw brass that has been cleaned and then treated to have a warm, light to dark brown color. Patinated brass has "character" and is not uniform in color. Vintaj and Trinity Brass both supply patinated brass. The brass is not plated but has been given its dark color due to an environmentally friendly process
What is Brass Ox?
This can encompass two types of products It can be a brass which has had brass plating applied. The plating has the same warm, light to medium brownish gold color and has a uniform look to it. It can also apply to brass that has been oxidized, darkened, a bit. Then it is sealed. It will not tarnish.
Why Choose Brass?
Most people are able to wear brass and not have a skin reaction. Real brass contains no nickel or lead, the two culprits responsible for some adverse skin reactions.
Before we purchase our supplies we do our very best to make sure the brass is 100% brass and we have been very successful in finding brass items manufactured in the USA.
